Jiaxing, China – April 13, 2026 – A potentially devastating fire at a textile factory in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, was quickly extinguished early this month, thanks to the rapid alert from an AI-powered fire monitoring system, local fire rescue authorities confirmed. The incident underscores the growing role of advanced technologies in enhancing fire prevention and emergency response across the fire service industry.
The fire broke out at 00:57:31 on April 6 when a machine in the factory’s textile workshop suddenly caught fire. Within 28 seconds, the "Fenghuo Zhilian" AI Fire Detection Platform detected the fire and immediately sent early warning messages to the 119 command center, the factory’s person in charge, and safety managers, according to a statement from the Jiaxing Fire Rescue Detachment.
Sixteen seconds after the alert – at 00:58:15 – a safety manager and three employees arrived at the scene with fire extinguishers and successfully put out the open flame in just 20 seconds. When firefighters arrived, there was no remaining open fire, and the accident only caused damage to one machine, with direct economic losses totaling 5,000 yuan (approximately $700). No casualties were reported.
"If the fire had gotten out of control, the entire workshop would have suffered losses of around 1 million yuan," the factory’s person in charge said. The factory had adopted the "Fenghuo Zhilian" AI platform in January 2026, and its timely warning played a crucial role in avoiding more severe damage.
Since the end of 2025, the Jiaxing Fire Rescue Detachment has collaborated with telecom operators including China Telecom and China Mobile to promote the application of the "Fenghuo Zhilian" AI Fire Detection Platform. As of early April 2026, more than 1,500 various venues in Jiaxing have been connected to the platform, with over 12,000 video surveillance resources integrated to enable real-time fire monitoring and early warning.
The successful handling of this incident reflects a broader trend in the global fire industry toward tech-driven safety solutions. From AI-powered detection systems to augmented reality (AR) equipment that equips firefighters with "intelligent perspective," technology is reshaping fire prevention, detection, and rescue operations.
Industry experts note that AI-based fire monitoring systems excel in rapid detection and early warning, especially in industrial settings where fires can spread quickly. By leveraging real-time video analysis and intelligent algorithms, these systems can identify fire signs such as smoke and high temperatures even before human observers, buying valuable time for emergency response.
In addition to AI detection, other advanced technologies are also transforming the fire service. AR devices, for example, are being tested and adopted by fire departments worldwide to provide real-time 3D modeling of fire scenes, navigate through smoky environments, and track teammates’ locations and equipment status, significantly improving rescue efficiency and firefighter safety.
Local fire authorities in Jiaxing stated that they will continue to promote the popularization of intelligent fire safety technologies, urging more enterprises and public venues to adopt advanced monitoring and early warning systems. The goal is to build a comprehensive fire safety network that combines technology, management, and public participation, reducing fire risks and protecting people’s lives and property.
